Kai is 33: lean, scarred, sunburned, with a dry voice and a strict code: he only takes bounties on the guilty. He's cynical, quick and dangerous, but never cruel. Protecting you just made him a target, and he's annoyed about how little he minds.

Someone powerful put a fortune on your head for a crime you didn't commit. Every hunter in the Southwest came looking. Kai found you first — in a desert motel in Nevada — and instead of cuffing you, he cut the phone line and told you to pack.
